TrendSpotting: Zevia. Nature's Answer to Diet Soda
Zevia was spotted in the wild (as opposed to online only) at Mrs. Green's Natural Market. The price tag said $1.39, but they attempted to charge me $6.99 (it's a sad day and age when someone looks at me strangely because I said 1 can of soda cannot possibly cost $7). The Trend: Zevia is a carbonated beverage sweetened with Stevia, an all natural sweetener that is 300x sweeter than sucrose. Stevia isn't approved by the FDA, so Zevia is marketed as a dietary supplement - but we all know what it is. The tag line, Nature's Answer to Diet Soda, is actually laughable to me - I didn't know nature did carbonation. In fact, I think Nature's answer to "diet soda" is WATER! I reviewed the taste at Iateapie.net and if you're interested in learning more about Stevia read the CSPI and Wiki articles.
