Food Labels that Mean Nothing: EGCG on Turkey Hill Diet White Tea (Peach)
![]() Turkey Hill Diet White Tea (peach flavor) prominently displays a "EGCG Natural Antioxidants" label on the bottle, which indicates that this tea contains the antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). But nowhere on the packaging could I find just how much EGCG is in Turkey Hill Diet White Tea. Why isn't this information there? This practice of slapping a sticker or label on a product with a "buzzword" and no other relevant information really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. In the case of Turkey Hill, it indicates to me that there is probably very little EGCG. I decided to find out, so I called the contact number for Turkey Hill and was speaking to a live person within 1 minute (I was pleasantly surprised). She informed me that there was only 6 milligrams of EGCG per 8 ounce serving or 12 mg/ bottle (16 ounces). This certainly isn't much, because the lowest number I have seen in studies on how much EGCG you need daily to provide a health benefit, is 50 mg. Turkey Hill - you get an "A" for being so accessible and your knowledgeable customer service, but an "F" for this ridiculous labeling practice.
