Truvia. First Taste at Rockerfeller Center

Rebiana

Truvia, a 'new' all natural, no calories, sweetener made from Rebiana (from the leaves of the Stevia plant), was unleashed at Rockerfeller Center in NY today, July 11, 2008. The Stevia plant from which Truvia is dervied, could be seen along with samples of Truvia, which looks like sugar (white, crystalline sucrose). The packets actually contain erythritol (sugar alcohol), rebiana and natural flavors. One packet of Truvia provides the same sweetness as two teaspoons of sugar.

Truvia

There were samples of lemonade and iced ea made from Truvia. I tried both and the lemonade was much better. The iced tea tasted like it hadn't been sweetened at all. Still, I didn't experience any after-taste from either beverage, only a clean natural taste. Looks like Splenda has a serious rival, with people who prefer a natural solution gravitating towards Truvia.

Iced Tea Made from Truvia

Truvia is available for purchase online at Truviastore.com ($3.99 for a box with 40 single serving packets), or at select D'Agostino supermarkets in NY.

Thank you for this post!! I can't wait to try this. I'm a real Splenda girl but have concerns about it so I'll be one of the first to try it.

Kiki - I'm a Splenda girl too, but Truvia won me over with the taste.

I love it! I switched to Zevia a few months ago and will never go back. Way to go Caoke and Cargill!

You should all try SweetLeaf Sweetener. It tastes much better than Truvia!

I bought some. It is very interesting. The front end is sweet and doesn't taste artificial. If you taste enough of it straight, there is an aftertaste, but it isn't bad like aspartame... just weird. I actually think it might blend right into certain flavors.

I did notice a little bit of the cooling sensation, but it wasn't particularly pronounced. I was actually kind of looking forward to it since I figured it might do well in mint drinks. :)

I made some limeade with it and honestly while I could probably tell the difference between it and sugar, I'm not sure which one I'd actually prefer.
