New from Starbucks: Starbucks Vivanno Nourishing Blends

Starbucks Vivanno Nourishing Blends hit Starbucks everywhere on Tuesday, July 15th. It's a smoothie, it has less than 300 calories (per 16 ounce) and each one has at least 1 serving of fruit - a whole banana.

Starbucks Vivanno

The Vivanno comes in two flavors. The Orange Mango Banana is made with a whole banana, a 'proprietary' whey protein & fiber powder, milk, Naked juice and blended with ice. The Grande (16 ounce) serving size has 250 calories, 16 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, 32 grams of sugar and 2 grams of total fat - no artificial sweeteners. There is also 35% of the daily value for vitamins A and C (complete nutritional facts are at Starbucks.com). I tried it and found it to be thick with a strong mango flavor. I liked it, but not enough to regularly spend $4.00 to buy it.

The Banana Chocolate comes freshly prepared with a whole banana, bittersweet cocoa, 2% milk and their 'proprietary' whey protein & fiber powder and ice. The Grande serving size has 270 calories, 5 grams of total fat, 2.5 grams of saturated fat, 15 mg cholesterol, 21 grams of protein, 28 grams of sugar and 6 grams of fiber. There is also 15 mg of caffeine (complete nutritional facts are at Starbucks.com).

The folks at Serious Eats weren't impressed with the Vivanno and much preferred Jamba Juice.

I found it to have no mango flavor and a texture akin to gym-based protein shakes. Even though I have a couple of coupons for free ones I don't think I'll be using them anytime soon.

Yours were thick? Mine were watery, like a melted McDonald's milkshake, and there was some slight grittiness from the whey protein. Very disappointing.

@abi and marvo - the guy that made my Vivanno did say he makes it the best :-) Don't know if that had anything to do with it. I didn't taste any grittiness in mine at all. From all the reviews I've read it looks like people had very different experiences.
