Heinz 'Gay Kiss' Ad Update & Summary

Heinz is inthe middle of a controversy over the showing of an ad for their Deli Mayo, featuring a guy on guy kiss, and I personally think they are loving it. Here's the summary & an update of the unfolding series of events:

  • Heinz airs an ad for their Deli Mayo which features a gay couple and a goodbye kiss at the end. See the ad here.
  • 200 people complain. Heinz feigns surprise and pulls the ad after a week.
  • The gay rights group Stonewall, urged its supporters to BOYCOTT Heinz products because the ad was withdrawn. "We're shocked that an innocuous ad should have been withdrawn in this way." says chief executive, Ben Summerskill.
  • The American Family Association urged people to register their disapproval with the firm's US headquarters because the ad aired in the first place.
  • England's Parliament ministers are saying that the ad should be restored.

The Result: People now know that Heinz doesn't just make ketchup.
