Top 25 Worldwide Food Retailers
Supermarket News put out their annual list of the Top 25 Food Retailers based on net sales are for the 2007 calendar year. Eligible companies had to have at least 1/3rd of their earnings from their grocery operations - which eliminated companies like CVS and Target out. The top 10 includes Walmart at #1 - not very surprising, Kroger at #5 and Costco at #8 - who would have thought Kroger would beat Costco! The top 10 list is below:
- 1. Wal-Mart Stores
- 2. Carrefour
- 3. Tesco
- 4. Metro Group
- 5. Kroger Co.
- 6. Schwarz Group
- 7. Rewe
- 8. Costco Wholesale Corp.
- 9. Aldi
- 10. Auchan
