Dunkin Donuts Launches DDSmart - New Better For You Choices

Dunkin Donuts DDSmart Menu

Dunkin' Donuts announced the launch of their DDSMART Menu today, which will be the brand's first menu of "better-for-you" options. The DDSMART Menu features the new Dunkin' Donuts' Egg White Flatbread Sandwiches which makes Dunkin' Donuts the first national quick service restaurant chain to introduce egg white sandwiches.

The new menu also includes several other food and beverage choices, all of which must meet at least one of the following criteria: 25% fewer calories; 25% less sugar, fat, saturated fat or sodium than comparable fare, and/or contain ingredients that are nutritionally beneficial. There is a reduced calorie berry smoothie, made with real fruit and low-fat yogurt, unsweetened iced tea, Coffee Coolatta made with skim milk, which has zero grams of fat per serving, an Egg and Cheese, or Ham, Egg & Cheese sandwiches served on an English muffin and a Multigrain Bagel.

According to Dunkin' Donuts President and Chief Brand Officer Will Kussell, DDSMART represents an important milestone for the brand. "Understanding what our busy, on-the-go customers want, and constantly innovating to meet those needs is the single biggest reason for our brand's growth and success. Both our customers and franchisees have told us they're looking for a greater breadth of menu choices that include better-for-you options, without compromising quality, taste and value. With DDSMART, we have enhanced our menu to ensure our restaurants offer great-tasting food and beverages that fit any customer's lifestyle," he said.

As long as Dunkin Donuts doesn't mess with it's coffee - or it's donuts, I'm a happy girl. It's odd to think of Dunkin Donuts as having healthy choices, and for the most part, while they don't feature stellar nutrition, they are certainly better than MANY other fast food options (Whoppers and Frappuccinos to name a few).

I think this is more about business. Dunkin Donuts needed to expand from just a breakfast and coffee crowd. By offering more options, they will certainly achieve that and I certainly applaud their creativity in coming up with sandwiches that are not played out i.e. burgers and subs.

Now we just need DD in SoCal.

My "healthy" fast food breakfast choice is an Egg McMuffin with no meat. (Only 200 calories.)

Jack in the Box used to do scrambled eggs with bacon in a pita pocket that I just adored. (Of course I'd get it without the bacon.)

@cybele - of course you got it without bacon :-)

I lived without DD too for a few years - I really missed it. There are 2 egg sandwiches Veggie - not that good, and Turkey with Sausage - pretty decent. I'm reviewing them tomorrow on Iateapie
