Burger King Launches New Healthier Kids Meal Option

Burger KingBurger King is introducing a new "healthier" Kids Meal that features a 4-ounce serving of Kraft macaroni and cheese, Hershey's 1% Low Fat Milk and "Fresh Apple Fries", which are uncooked apple slices shaped like French fries and served with low-fat caramel dipping sauce. The new Kids Meal provides 350 total calories with less than 25 percent of calories from fat and 9 percent from saturated fat.

The meal will debut on July 7, 2008 along with new television commercials featuring "Little King" meant to be the masked king's young son. As if that Burger King mascot wasn't creepy enough - it's now spawned a son!

Burger King showed they also have a funny side by including this joke in its press release.

"Burger King Corp. has been taking positive steps in the nutrition arena for some time ... initially as the only restaurant in the industry to offer a veggie burger and now with a new Kids Meal that boasts an exceptional nutrition profile," said Russ Klein, president, global strategy, marketing and innovation, Burger King Corp.

Positive steps in the nutrition arena? Ha! They are one of the last fast food companies that hasn't switched to trans fat free French fries. And the last burger they introduced, The Steakhouse Burger has 950 calories, 91% of the daily recommended value (DRV) for total fat (59 grams), almost 50% of the DRV for cholesterol (140 mg) and 81% of the RDA for sodium (1950 mg).

If you still eat the artery clogging, heart stopping food sold at Burger King, at least now your kids won't have to suffer the same fate.
